Fees
I provide a free case evaluation to help you make informed decisions, and work with you to develop a game plan. I will even tell you when I think you don’t need a lawyer because you can use certain free resources to handle the matter yourself, or when I know I’m not the right lawyer for you.
For certain types of consumer rights cases where the (losing) defendant must pay the (winning) consumer’s attorney’s fees, I will take cases on a contingency basis. I also offer reasonable hourly rates and flat fees for bankruptcy, debt collection defense, and other legal needs. I find many clients prefer a flat fee because they know exactly what the entire amount of attorney’s fees will be upfront.
Hourly billing requires that an attorney track his/her time in six-minute increments, which detracts from the time I could spend focusing directly on your case. It also can cause clients to second-guess whether they should call or e-mail their attorney because they wonder how much they’ll be charged to ask a quick question. I don’t ever want my clients to feel like they can’t ask questions or need to scrutinize a monthly bill to make sure they aren’t getting overcharged for a phone call. However, if your particular legal need requires hourly billing, I am certainly willing to work with you on an hourly basis.
In addition to providing full representation, I also provide limited-scope services. These “unbundled legal services“ can include document preparation (such as drafting an answer and discovery requests), limited appearances in court, and in-depth consultations. Although limited-scope representation is not appropriate in every situation, it can be beneficial for clients who are representing themselves and only need help with a certain task or aspect of a legal matter.
